iOS 6 gives a subtle hint about the iPhone’s 5 screen size

The soon to be released iOS 6 gives a subtle hint about the iPhone’s 5 screen size.  The website 9to5Mac has found that an application called the iOS simulator has been tweaked in iOS 6, which is used to build iOS apps. What they found was that they were able to expand the screen resolution to match the resolution that of the rumoured iPhone 5 screen size which has a resolution of 640 x 1136 also when the image was expanded to that size an extra row of apps was also automatically added onto the home screen. In iOS 5.1 when the same resolution was applied it just made the four rows of home screen apps appear to further spread out across the larger screen space.

However it cannot be concluded that this is evidence that confirms that apple is planning to release an iPhone 5 with a larger display. It could just be an indication that apple are simply testing a prototype screen that they never plan to release. Until apple finally make an an announcement which is rumoured to be on September the 12th,  we will not know for sure.

More rumours emerge about the release dates of the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini

According to the tech website iMore apple is planning to announce the iPhone 5 at a press event on the 12th of September. The device will then be launched on Friday the 21 st of September. In the past iMore have been very accurate, so expect this to most likely happen. However its worth pointing out that it seems unlikely that the iPad mini will be announced at the same event, because  rumours have emerged from a website called ilounge that suggests that the actual launch date of that device will most likely be in November, due to apple not being able to have the device ready in time for a September launch.

Apples new iOS 6 software is also expected  to be launched  at the iPhones 5’s press event . It worth noting that the iPhone 5 will most likely be launched with the new iOS 6 software. iOS 6 is expected to have up to 200 new features that includes Apples new maps,a further upgrade of Siri and deeper Facebook integration.

Rumours emerge that hints of an iPod with a 4” screen which further gives credence to the iphone 5 4” screen rumours

Rumours have emerged from a Japanese tech blog Macotakara that hints of a fifth generation iPod with a Lcd 4” screen is coming in the Autumn. This will further add credence to the iPhone 5 4” screen rumours, because apple will need to keep to the same screen size for all new devices that they intend to launch, because it will keep the fragmentation issues to the minimum which seems to plague the Android platform .

The new iPod will be getting a design change and it will also feature the same duel core A5 processor what is used in the  current iPhone 4S phone according to Macotakara, which will be an upgrade from the A4 chip that is used in the current generation of the iPod. The A5 processor will deliver up to two times more power and seven times faster graphics, this will ensure what ever demanding tasks you throw at it it will handle them with ease and smoothness. The new iPod will also most likely feature the smaller doc connector that is rumoured to be included in the up and coming iPhone 5. No news as of yet have been released concerning the camera specifications, but it will most likely be getting the same camera that came with the new iPad , which was a 5 mp camera.

The fifth generation of the iPod will probably be released the same time as the Iphone 5, that will most likely be either September or October. These devices are likely to come with the new iOS 6 software that will also come with the new apple map software.

The iphone 5 is to come with a smaller 19-Pin “Mini” Connector

The technology website called techcrunch confirms  that the  iphone 5 is to get a smaller 19-Pin “Mini” Connector. The website claims that they have “independently verified” this. They state that three independent manufacturers have varied that it is currently work in progress. This is further backed up by another website  called mobilefun, that claims to have leaked drawings of the iPhone 5 that clearly indicates that the iPhone has the smaller 19-Pin “Mini” Connector. Mobilefun says they contacted a manufacturer to confirm the authenticity of the drawings and they confirmed that these drawings were accurate.

This will replace the current 30-Pin Connector that has been used amongst all Apple products since the third generation iPod, which was released in 2003. It’s thought that the reason behind Apple switching to a small connector was because they wanted to free up more space within the iPhone 5 to add additional technology such as NFC technology, 4G LTE etc.

This announcement has upset many people, due to the fact it will make all iPhone accessories, such as speakers obsolete with one blow. Lets hope Apple will come up with an adaptor to resolve this problem.

The iPhone 5 could be getting swappable camera lenses

The iPhone 5 could be getting swappable camera lenses according to  a website called Apple Insider.  They go on to state that there has been a patent filing that contains information of a system that enables you to change optics on the iPhone 5. It’s important to note that to be able to change the optics on the iPhone Apple would have  to have a removable back panel, which Apple has never previously adopted. The back panel could have two lenses built into it, changing lenses could be as easy as flipping the case around.  This patent could pave the way for a macro lens to be made that reduces the minimum focal distance, which would enable photos to be taken of  nearer objects, who knows what other type of lenses that could be made available. There could even be an option to have a choice of lenses with different filters on them. The patent application also points out that Apple could be also planning to introduce better image and  and shutter technology.

Its worth pointing out that there are no guarantees that this technology is actually in the works with Apple, because in the past they have not always acted on their patents.

However if Apple were to introduce this option this could pave way for Apple to introduce a replaceable battery option, which most devices support these days.

Iphone 5 Tim Cook seems to rule out the possibility of an iphone 5 with a 4 inch screen

Tim Cook seems to have ruled out the possibility of an iphone 5coming with a 4 inch screen, according to the website The Verge,  Tim Cook speaking at the D:10 conference says:-

” One things is that we’re not fragmented. Look at the percentage of users who upgraded to IOS5. We have one App store. We have one phone with one screen size, one resolution. So it’s pretty simple if you’re a developer”.

This comment made by Apple’s Tim Cook at the D:10 conference seem to conflict with most of the rumours that are flying around out there at the moment, that are claiming that the iphone 5 is coming with at least a 4 inch screen. 9to5Mac for example, who are a reliable source are claiming to have leaked images of parts of an iphone 5. As you can see in the image above courtesy of 9to5Mac here is a screen measuring 3.999 inches diagonally from corner to corner.

In reality nobody knows for sure what Apple has up it’s sleeves when it comes to the specs of the iphone 5, Apple have a good record of keeping secrets regarding their future planned products. If Apple fail to bring out a new iphone with at least a 4 inch screen, they are at risk of falling behind its competitors. This is because many of the top end smart phones, such as the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 are coming packed with better features like quad-core processors, gorilla glass and almost five-inch screens.

iphone 5 is to get a 4 inch screen but there’s a catch

It looks likely that the iphone 5 is to get a 4 inch screen, but there’s a catch. The catch is that only the height of the screen is being increased according to iLounge, they go on to say that the height of the screen is being increased by 11mm or 0.45 inches.  This will allow for an extra row of icons being added to the screen. This will also make the iphone about 10 mms taller than the previous iphone 4s, so consequently increasing the bulk of the phone so possibly upsetting potential customers. Also if they did up the screens height it would prove to be a headache for app developers moving from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 aspect ratio. The best thing Apple could do is increase the phone screen size diagonally up to 3.7 or 4 inches. This would keep everything proportionate so making it easier for apps developers to accommodate their apps. Adopting  a 3.7 inch screen would also avoid having to increase the dimensions of the phone, so not risking the phone becoming too bulky in size.

The iPhone 5 possibly going into production soon

The DigiTimes which is one of the most relaible sources for information about ios rumours claims, that Pegatron Technology who is a Chinese manufacturer has received a request to develop the iphone 5 for a September launch. This rumour could have some truth value, because this is the company that currently makes OEM parts for the iphone 4s and the new ipad.

This report seems to appear to further validate the release dates of either September or October.  If there is any truth in this rumour which there is a good possibility of,  it would make it impossible to get the iphone ready in time for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event in June.

Iphone 5 will be released in October and will be made out of liquid metal

There are rumours  floating around according to the UK newspaper the telegraph that states that the Iphone 5 is to be made out of a type of metallic looking glass metal, which is called liquid metal.      Evidence comes from fact that apple has signed an exclusive deal with liquid metal technologies ltd. It is believed that apple has paid 11 million for the rights for it. The use of liquid metal will be ideal for the iphone, because it will make the iphone look thinner, lighter and sexier looking.  Its likely to be more durable than plastic and it will be easier to recycle too.

There is another rumour that indicates that the iphone 5 could be released in October rather than June. The evidence to back this claim up comes from Qualcomm, which makes some of the chips that go in the iphone. It seems that they do not have the production capacity to meet the production demands that are required for the June deadline.

Sprint is to quickly roll out 4g on time for the iPhone 5 release

There are various rumours flying around that suggests that the cell phone carrier Sprint, which is the 3rd biggest network in the USA is  quickly rolling out its 4g network to the US biggest population areas in time for the release of the iphone 5. Some of these area include areas such as Tennessee, Illinois and New York. All this seems to indicate that this  could mean a June release of the iphone 5. Sprint will have likely to have finished the roll out of 4g by 2013 according to various reports such as the iphone 5 news blog.
